Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev

One of the finest ballerinas of the 20th century, Margaret Hookham (known as Margot Fonteyn) had professional partnerships with Robert Helpmann and Rudolf Nureyev. Of the second of these, the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography says:

“Their immediate rapport, the chemistry between them on stage, and the unanimity of purpose in preparation gave their performances together a uniquely satisfying quality. Besides, both learned so much from the other in matters of style, emotional understanding, and presentation that their work with other partners benefited too.”

About Nureyev, Wikipedia says: “He was notoriously impulsive and did not have much patience with rules, limitations and hierarchical order.”
